no need to wait! At 8 weeks old my pup was able to pick up sit, down, shake, rollover, spin, and wait in a matter of minutes. They are smart from the very beginning. Impulse control is what takes some time...

BC's are just the best! I have 2 and instead of doing boring cardio at the gym I run 2 hours in the morning with them and after work at night I take them for a walk and play ball or frisbee with them, also we do agility on weekends just for fun.
I dedicate only 4 hours a day to my dogs, the rest of the time they play together (the second BC helped a lot) and the rest they are completely sleep I barely know about them the rest of the day after exercise, I live in a city apartment with the two of them and they need no more than 4 hours a day, THATS NOTHING WHEN I GET IN EXCHANGE THE BEST DOG BREED EVER! and I have had all kinds of breeds, AFTER A BORDER COLLIE THERE IS NO GOING BACK!

Sheesh...not sure on that one. Might have better luck if you can get him in a spot without distractions (cars and bikes) and work on some fetching. Maybe get some really good treats...he might pick it up.

My border collie has no interest in a tennis ball, which is very annoying as he is more interested in chasing people and cars and cyclists! I need to get him interested in fetch!

What an awesome video! I would love to see what Kyuss sees on a daily basis. It would be quite interesting I'm sure!

I know if we stuck a cam to him, we'd see him constantly cleaning up crumbs and bits of cereal on the floor on a daily basis! LOL

Hahaha! What a great video. Neighbours of mine as a kid has a border collie named Scooter. She was a lovely thing and definately always "on.". She ended up being knocked up by the boxer on the farm next to them and had 9 beautiful little pups.
I can still remember her hearding all her puppies and us kids together while we played in their yard. I loved her personality and when I was considering what sort of breed of dog I wanted, the border collie was on my list because of my experience with Scooter. I knew however, that their drive was a bit higher than I could handle which is why I chose the dobermann in the end.

Gary,

That is a great example of how bright these dogs are and how quickly they can associate! Glad to hear we're not the only ones out there with this little condition.

Our Chester also was a shadow and light chaser. One night as my wife was finishing her reading she accidentally knocked over the reading light which cast a shadow on the ceiling. Chester focused on it, i made a shadow puppet on the ceiling and he was leaping up and down on the foot of the bed. When we turned out the light he jumped down and curled up on his own bed. The next evening he jumped up on the bed, went over to the lamp. took his paw and knocked it over. We then realized we had a pretty smart animal in the house. When i would pick up a flash light he would look to see where it was pointed before looking at the spot. I used this habit as a training tool, a reward of limited duration for recall or other response. There were a couple spots on our walks where it was dark enough in the forest that he could briefly chase light and as an exercise tool on winter evenings. A "that'll do"would settle him down but I can see where it could be a problem for some dogs and would not encourage this behavior.

It's amazing how fast these guys learn. They also seem to really enjoy learning new stuff. Whenever we start working on a new trick or job Ned gets super into it!
